Mount Tate Pilgrimage
Mount Tate (立山) is located in the southeastern area of Toyama Prefecture. It is one of the tallest peaks in the Hida Mountain range at 3,015 m (9,892 ft) and, along with Mount Fuji and Mount Haku, it is one of Japan's "Three Holy Mountains" (Sanreizan).
The climbing season for Mount Tate is from April until November. There is public transport to the Murodo Plateau, a mere 1854 feet from the peak. At the peak is the Oyama Shrine, where pilgrims can drink sake and receive a blessing from the priest. On clear days, you can see Shomyo Falls while climbing up the mountain from Tateyama to Murodo Plateau.
